We test in real US homes, not sponsored labs. We measure suction, run each machine across hardwood, carpet, and pet hair, weigh it, time the runtime, and pull the filters apart to see what they actually trap. Our promise is simple: every filter checked, every floor tested. Where a hands-on test isn't possible, we say so and explain what we based the verdict on instead.

Is Vacuum Owl independent, or paid for by brands?

We're independent and reader-supported. No manufacturer pays us to soften a review or move a vacuum up a ranking. We make money from display ads and, secondarily, from affiliate links - but a commission never changes which machine wins a buying guide. When a link can earn us a commission, we disclose it.

We cover the most-searched US brands - Shark, Dyson, Bissell, Miele, Roomba/iRobot, Roborock, Dreame, eufy, Tineco, Hoover and Eureka - across every form factor: robot, cordless, stick, upright, canister, handheld, and wet/dry. We focus on the vacuum as a device, so we don't cover carpet shampooers, steam mops, pool vacuums, or food sealers.

It depends on the topic. Buying guides and brand hubs are refreshed as new models launch and prices move, troubleshooting and maintenance guides are reviewed on a regular cycle, and seasonal roundups are updated before peak buying windows. Each guide shows its last-updated date so you always know how current it is.
